Heather started off the class by showing a small PowerPoint about Bitmap vs. Vector images. She opened up Inkscape and started demonstrating how to use the program with a simple square shape. She provided a handout, which described the different tools. The class worked to modify the rectangle. Heather then showed the polygon tool and made some stars and a hexagon. She then showed how to use the spiral tool and spiral text. The discussion moved on to the fill tool along with the gradients and patterns it could create. After that, the students learned about layers. The students were then allowed to experiment with the different tools for a few minutes.

The instructor had the students download a file from her website that had to do with logo graphics. The students then learned that many famous logos were made in a vector program. The students attempted to recreate the example logos that they downloaded from the instructor's website. They explored the extents of the pen tool with the Nike swoosh as well as unions and subtractions with the Target logo. After the break, the class explored the Honda logo and the manipulation of letters. The last example logo was from NBC. The demonstration involved many of the methods the students had already used, but combined them all to make a more complicated product. The students were then encouraged to work on logos for the websites they had been developing.
