Topic:Modeling Your World
Time Duration: 2 hours
Grades: K-7th
The class discussed what computational science and modeling meant to them. The students
discussed the different things they could model around them such as diseases, food chain and
buildings. Then the instructor held up a rock and asked the students how the rock could
model a car. The instructor and students discussed the similarities and differences between
a rock and a car. Then the students were divided into groups and given various objects in
which they had to list at least 3 things that the object could be used to model. Once all
groups looked at the objects, the class discussed each object.
