Modeling Your World

Topic: Modeling Your World
Time Duration: 2 hours total.
Grades: 3rd-5th

The class discussed what computational science and modeling meant to them. The students discussed the different things they could model around them such as diseases, food chain and buildings. Then the instructor held up a rock and asked the students how the rock could model a car. The instructor and students discussed the similarities that a rock and a car have in common as well as the differences.
Then the students were divided into groups and given various objects in which they had to list at least 3 things that the object could be used to model. Once all groups looked at the objects, the class discussed each object.
