Search Engines

Topic: Search Engines
Time Duration: 45 minutes of lesson time and 30 minutes of independent work time.
Grades: 3rd-7th

The class explored using search engines. The class went over different short cuts to use to narrow down their searches. The students used google.com to explore the shortcuts taught in the class discussion. Each students was able to practice using shortcuts on their own computers. The students had to look up famous people that they knew. The first famous person they had to look up was Michael Jordan. The class was able to tell me how to get information about companies he owned and not his personal life. The students learned how to look for particular people, making the search engine deliver results with a specific name. The students looked up themselves on the internet. This class was so interesting that the camp counselors wanted to participate.
