We began the class by talking about different distances in space. He discussed the distances of stars and then showed a graph that had the distances of stars and showed just how far away they were.

Then Allyson came and talked to them about how to find the distances of circles and other shapes from each other. The students then went outside and played a game that dealt with the distance between objects. The point of the game was to find the distance from their island to the flagpole, where their food was, without leaving the island. They used many different geometry skills to find the distance. They then came back in and compared their answers and Dave showed how he got his answer.

Next, Dave got on his computer and showed them pictures of stars and constellations. He compared their shapes in the day, night, and in different cities. Dave then explained how these stars and other objects are used in space and on Earth to measure different lengths and distances.

After break Ronnie came and started to talk to the class about star images in 3-D. He also talked about constellations and then went on the computer and used a calculator program he designed http://www.astro.wisc.edu/~dolan/constellations/constellations/Ursa_Major.html as well as Simbad Query form http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/sim-fid.p to find 3-D distances of stars and to find their locations/positions in space. The students then used these resources and found positions of different stars and put them on spreadsheet. They used these coordinates to see the models of their constellations in 3-D in the Galaxsee program.

Lastly, the students filled out their reports reflecting how their day went by.
