Candid Student Reports

The following (emails) were written by members of the Modeling Your World during the third session of the program. Some elements may have been removed for various reasons, but the text that remains is in the student's own words.

Natasha

Today we did population graphs between rabbits and lynx.  Before we
did the population graphs on the computer we played a game called hares and
lynx.  The game deffinately gave me a better understanding of the activity we
did on the computer.

  After the break we learned about diabetes and what it is.  We went to one of
the great Shodor sites with the "activities" that help us to better understand.
We had to give a pregnant woman doses of medicine with carbos and insolin.  I
was not too good at it.   I got confused and I think the poor pregnant girl I
was trying to give doses for ended up being 1.3465 lbs.



Will

Today was really fun. I liked playing "Links and Hares," especially
when Greg was the only hare and there were five lynx.  It was really fun making
the lynx-hare model.  I really liked killing tha lady with the 1000, 1000, 1000
gram doseage of the medicine.  I hope tomorrow was as fun as

 hi today was fun we used stella and aida simulator we also simulated
cures for diabeties patients.

I think that today was very fun.  It was very fun to learn how to use
Stella, and at the same time I learned about the dynamics of predator/prey
relationships.  The Diabetes exercise was also enjoyable, especially using the
online simulator.  It would have been better if we did a second exercise with
Stella

We had a lot of fun today. I liked the thing with the hares and lynx.
I liked experimenting with numbers to make the populations die or get too big.
The diabetes thing was fun. The talks were interesting. It was a good day.

 Hi, its me agian with the report. Another good day which included
makeing a realistic population graph. I also tried to level of suger on a
diabites patent. I wasnt to good at it though.

Today, we played an enjoyable game outside about the hares and the
lynx.  It was fun and then on the computer we looked at how the population of
the lynx and hares drops and rises, based on certain effects on their society.
Today we also learned about Diabetes and how different types of people have to
take their insulin at different times and we looked at how their blood sugar
was affected by that.

Today we did a thing on Diabetes and Lynx and Hare poulations. It was
ok.
