A science park for Durham: Phase 1

Phase 1 involves a long-term lease on the building at 923 Broad Street, as well as the rental and renovation of the house and property at 919 Broad Street. This phase will allow Shodor to significantly expand its current outreach effort to the local community, through programs like Project SUCCEED. Phase 1 is already underway - Shodor has begun renting and renovating the property at 919 Broad Street, and will be obtaining a long-term lease of the building at 923 Broad.

A thumbnail blueprint of Phase 1 is shown below. This blueprint focuses mostly on renovations that will be done to the building at 923 Broad. The plans call for a significant enlargement of the training facilities on the bottom floor, to include two training labs (convertable to one large lab), coordination rooms for staff, a student lounge and kitchen, and other support rooms. The top floor will be office space for Shodor staff and visting scientists and educators.
