Today, Dr. Robert Panoff kicked off the Shodor Scholars Program by showing the class a card trick algorithm. He showed the numerous forms of basic math, such as Trigonometry, Exponential, quadratic, Gaussian and linear equations that can be used in daily life. Then, he explained the complex connections between predators and prey, such as wolves and Rabbits in the example model the class has constructed previously. They tested a model by using an application called Vensim. Vensim is a computer application that builds up system modeling using flow charts. Alexandra took over the class and introduced a new challenge: modeling students at a community college. She explained the complexities of the different students at a community college with a Vensim model. Later, Jennifer took over and explained the relationship between Gullibles, Rumor Mongerers and Loyalists with another Vensim model.

After lunch, Dr. Panoff demonstrated a few different models. He introduced a Vensim model designed to show cause and effect relations in a very complicated model. Even though models may be complex, Dr. Panoff explained, people in all walks of life can use them to help clarify a situation. Next the class worked with this statement by running a diabetes Vensim model to determine a population's chances of becoming diabetic. Afterwards, Dr. Panoff reintroduced Agentsheets to the class. He showed sick and healthy agents in a model. This model showed the class just how easy it is for germs to spread throughout a population! After washing hands, the seminar ended for the day.
