The students worked on a web based program called WebMO and built a water molecule. They learned how to find the bond length, bond angle, heat of formations and additional measurements of a water molecule. Each student was assigned a bond angle in which to calculate the heat of formation. All students combined their information to plot using Simple Plot, an interactivate activity. By using Simple Plot students were able to see a graphical representation of the optimum energy by finding the lowest point on the graph. Students built a model of ethane and were able to observe the changes in molecular energy due to the changes in the dihedral angle.
