The following (emails) were written by members of the Environmental Science, Summer 2000 Workshop during the first day of the program. Some elements may have been removed for various reasons, but the text that remains is in the student's own words.
I had alot of fun in today's workshop! The most interesting thing was the activity with the rabbits and the wolves. The stella model was pretty interesting too. I really look forward to omorrow!

Today we learned about "stuff", the ozone, and other things. I really liked the model we did with rabbits and wolves. It was really funny when Jabeen and Katie showed me their model with all rabbits that ate 300 pounds of grass a day. Some of the things I learned were confusing but I eventually understood them. It was really fun.

We worked on how much it would cost to repair the ozone. We worked with the hares and lynx model on the internet and we started our own.

Today we had fun. We loved the work and we enjoyed all that we did. We just loved killing rabbits with the Rabbit and Wolves program and we named the Stella Model "The Wonders of Killing Hares." Have fun and stay in the sun. So Long, Farewell, Chow and Goodbye, now I'm gone and don't you cry.

Today we did two stella m,dels, the firts one was very confusing to me but the second wasn't that hard to me. We will get to finish the second one tomorrow. I'm not sure if mine is right or not. But I hope we don't have to do anything as hard as the first odel we did today.

I got plenty of extra pratice today in my workshop. Though I have used many of the programs before I still find them interesting and intriguing. Many models where familiar to me. So I was able to help others in my work station.

Today I did a simulation of preditor to prery with wolf and rabbits. I liked this and it helped me underrstand that if the fewer wolfs they die off very quickly and the rabbits become overly populated and run oiut of grass to eat and eventshaly die themselves. I also used Stella and made a graph of a small towns population. I found this kind of confusing. At the last part of the day my partner and I made another Stella gragh I found this hard.

I had more fun in the afternoon because I thought the thing we did was more interesting. I also really liked the rabbit and wolf activity. however, I was really confused at the last activity (the stella model) just because I have never done it before. I think I would have been less confused if we had spent more time on it :)

Today I learned a lot about very confusing things having to do with environmental science. I really liked how Bob2 sent little messages onto the computer. It was a very fun but confusing first day.
