File Transfer:FTP (File Transfer Protocol) has long been a staple for transfering files over the internet, but like telnet does not encrypt communications, particularly the users login name and password. For that reason, we are requiring users to transfer files to or from the server using scp (secure copy). PuTTY for Windows includes scp support, and there is also the program WinSCP for Windows. Additionally, there are methods of making the AppleTalk connections we often use in the office slightly more secure. |
