In the first part of the morning, Shilpa passed out a cut piece of paper to each of the students and they wrote down their name on the top of the paper, along with the partner they would like to work with on the bottom of the paper. This was done so the students could choose their partners for the afternoon class. The students then went over what they talked about yesterday, which included tension and compression. The students then worked on the "In Straws We Trussed" applet to finish up what they started yesterday.

After that, Shilpa explained to the students the next activity they would be doing. The students were to make wax beams designs that would hold large amounts of weight. The students then went to the "Beam Me Down" applet on the Engineers in Training website and they drew and measured their designs that they would later use to build their wax beams. The students first built their horizontal beams first then their vertical beams. The students used sticks, playdough, grates, and rectangular containers to build their beams. The sticks were to hole the places where the students wanted no wax, while the playdough and grates helped to hold the beams together. The students then took their beams outside to have their sticks sprayed so that the wax wouldn't stick to them, as well as their beams filled with wax.
