Candid Student Reports

The following (emails) were written by members of the Scientific Programming class during the seventh session of the program. Some elements may have been removed for various reasons, but the text that remains is in the student's own words.

I learned a lot today and had lots of fun. Today we used
computer programs to predict what will happen later on
in a experiment. We learned a lot about physics and
how to model a program to calculate the velocity of an
object and when an object would hit the ground.
Carla

Today we learned how to write a program that calculates
velocities of speed distance etc.
Jalena

This workshop was very fun. I was able to use a lot
of the math I have learned so far in Alg II. I really
had a good time doing the applet because we could see
the results on the graph. The visuals were very helpful
in seeing if our program worked right. It was better
that the equations were given to us because then we
could focus on constructing the program.
Roshen

Today we learned about dynamic systems. We worked on
a challenging project in which we plugged in the
formulas so we could have an applet graph velocity and
position of a falling apple. It was very fun.
Sophia and Fei

Today we did some Java work with applets again
which involved some physics. It was a hypothetical
dropping of an apple and modeling a graph of the position
and velocity of the apple.
Albert

I enjoyed this class. It was interesting. Liked making
graphs.
Samuel

Today we learned how to model both computationally and
simulationally involving some physics. We worked in Java
on how to model an apple being dropped (in air) from a
certain distance.
