Candid Student Reports

The following reports were written by members of Modeling Your World, Session B during the third day of the program. Some elements may have been removed/edited for various reasons, but the text that remains is in the student's own words.

I really liked SimSurface. It was a model of electrons. Doing rabbits and foxes
was really, really fun.

Jeremy.

We enjoyed it here. I think you should make the classes longer. We had a great
time. I hope I come back again year after year. I think we had a good time.

Adam and Matthew.

Today was really fun because we played the predator and prey game and it was
really fun. We also enjoyed the elevator game and the electron game. Don't
change anything! We learned about how prey survives and how they stay away from
the predators. We had a lot of fun today!

Jordan and Electra.

Comments: Today we learned about predators and prey. We basically played tag
using the "it" person as the predator. Then we made a model to show it. Then we
did a model of electrons in a nasty elevator.
Peace, :)

Erin.

We learned about how positive and negative energy affect each other. It was
cool.

Joshua and Timothy.

Today we learned about Predator and Prey. We used STELLA® and made a graph
of wolves and rabbits. It was very fun... Then we went outside and did a
elevator project. We had to find a pattern for all of us to fit and for all of
us to be fair. We had to imagine that the sides are filled with disgusting
stuff, and that we want to get as far away as we can. When we had to fit all 15
of us inside equally it became very hard. So that's why we ended up in the
computer lab. We used a program called SIMSURFACE. It was very fun today.

Fei and Dominique.

Today we made a computer model of a predator-prey relationship. Specifically,
it was the relationship between rabbits and foxes. We had two stocks, four
flows, a bunch of connectors, etc. Afterward we mapped electrons with
SimSurface. We placed dots (programmed with a negative charge) on a surface and
pressed the apple key and the A button, which made them anneal. The electrons
settled into the positions which together had the least energy.

Aaron .

I really liked the lesson today, we talked about predators and prey. We also
talked about electrons and then did a model. The pretator prey class went a
little to fast but that was all. I really like this camp a lot and I want to
come back next year.

Emily.

We enjoyed the class today, we learned about metric systems. I liked it when
we made a virtual rabbit and fox model. And this lesson we had was so fun I
hope we can do it agin. The only thing I have to say about the teachers is that
they are cool. Now that is cool.

Tony and Alex.

Today I learned about predator and prey by experimenting outside. Also, we
talked about how prey can confuse a predator. Then, we tried to create a
pattern by pretending to be in a eleventor. Next, we tried to make patterns on
the computer which was FUN! This is a Fun progam!

Miles.
