Candid Student Reports

The following (emails) were written by members of the Math Explorations, Session A during the first day of the program. Some elements may have been removed for various reasons, but the text that remains is in the student's own words.

I had a great time today and I enjoyed talking with
some friends I met last summer.  It was a great 
chance to get to meet new smart kids and I enjoyed 
the pattern game.  I also enjoyed going to some cool 
websites and learning new stuff.



Sophia

Today in Math Explorations we discussed probability
in several forms.  First, we went outside and 
worked on probability with chips in a bag.  We then 
came back inside and solved a problem about 
probability of hitting a the circle in a square 
dart board with a dart.  We solved this problem 
using Microsoft Excel (spreadsheet).


Mike and Robert

I thought some of it was interesting but it seemed like 
alot of work. Some I had already learned before though. 
But overall I had fun.


Greg glynn

Today we worked on math obviously. We spent some time 
outside working on probobility.  And at the same time 
ate M&M's the rest of the day was spent working on 
the computer.  We had an enjoyable time. 


Ben and Ryan

I thought some of it was boring and some of 
it was indifferent.  Although talking to my friends 
was fun.  It was a great chance to talk to Sophia, 
a girl I met last summer.  And the m&m's were tasty.  
Other than that, I thought it was pretty boring.


Merill

I met new people and got along with them very well.  
We loved the M&M's especially when we got to EAT THEM.

I learned a lot of things and I enjoyed it. 
It was very fun and I met a lot of new friends. 


Estelle

Today, my classmates and I began the math portion of 
this boring camp.They don't even let you go swimming.
It's kinda fun meeting all of the different people 
who work with you. See you later!

We learned about probality.  An example 
of probability is 1/6.  The game that dealed with 
probability the most was the racing game.  
Fractal was one of the games we played 
dealing with probability.  We also did spreadsheets.
