We started out the class by talking about environmental science and how creating models of the
environment can help fix problems in the environment. The discussion was interactive and the
kids were engaged and answering questions to facilitate the conversation. We demonstrated how
modeling can be used to help the environment by showing a Netlogo model of forrest fire. We
talked about agents and their actions and thus introduced agent modeling. We showed the
students how to use Netlogo, then as a class we opened the Rabbits and Wolves model and
changed different variables to teach them how Netlogo reads commands. The students then were
given step by step instructions to create their own predator/prey model.
