Candid Student Reports

The following reports were written by members of Medicine & the Biosciences during the first day of the program. Some elements may have been removed/edited for various reasons, but the text that remains is in the student's own words.

I really enjoyed the first lesson for today. I found the lesson informative, containing information without lecturing.


Robbie

Today's class was great! I (re)learned how to use STELLATM, this time for epidemiology, and, of course, it was really fun using it. I have no complaints about the class; I just hope every day is this good.


Andrew

In class today, it was kind of interesting to learn about something different. I have met new people from all over the triangle. Everyone is cool and very helpful. I hope to enjoy the rest of the camp.


Derek

Today's class was pretty fun and I really liked that we got to work on StellaTM. We made a model of diabetes and malaria. With the diabetes model we had to give a woman that was pregnat an amount of food/carbs to eat at various times of day and prescribe an amount of insulin to take. It was pretty hard to do our person died.


Sade

I learned about the diseases malaria and the flu. I learned how to work the STELLATM program, learning how to make algorithms, and I learned about the Shodor program in general. I enjoyed meeting new people, learning how to use the new computers, and learning more about the diseases. I don't really have any criticism because the day went great.


Samantha

I enjoyed it. I liked the STELLATM program. I got more than I expected today. The only thing that I would change is the rate at which it is taught. I got a little confused during the time we were working with the STELLATM program. I think that I finally got it.


Carla

I had a great time here. I've never used STELLATM or algorithms before, but I think I did really well. I understand them real well, and I had fun solving the algorithm problems and the insulin problem. They really challenged me.
