Today the class began with a session where the students got to know thier web browser, Netscape Communicator. The students were shown how to create bookmarks and to sort them so they can find them faster later. They also learned how to update the links in case they change. Next the students got familiar with searching the web using Yahoo as well as key word searching with Lycos and Alta-Vista. In an activity the students were challenged to be the first one to find a photo of a whale using the directories of Yahoo.

After a break that the students enjoyed outside with juice and cookies they began an activity led by Marjorie. The problem the students discussed was what information to rely on in the internet. After searching the web for the boiling point of radium and finding sseveral different answers the students realized this could be a problem. Some students thought if the site was more accurate that it was more believable and others said that if it was from a more credible source, like Britanica, they would believe it. To finish the day Wendy Hunter, a geneticist, came to talk to the class about how she uses computers with her work.
