PublisherUniversity of Sheffield, UK, Sheffield S3 7HF, Department of Chemistry
DescriptionThis is the home page of The Orbitron - a gallery of ray-traced atomic orbital and molecular orbital images constructed with POV-Ray. It contains: 1) Electron-cloud and surface representations of atomic, hybrid, and molecular orbitals; 2) 2- and 3-D graphs of the wavefunctions associated with atomic and hybrid orbitals; 3) Animations of the electron density in atomic and hybrid orbitals, showing their inner lobes and nodal structure; 4) Rotatable, zoomable electron-cloud representations of atomic, hybrid, and molecular orbitals; 5) Radial distribution functions for atomic orbitals; 6) The equations for atomic and hybrid orbital wavefunctions; and 7) Animations of the interactions of bonding and antibonding orbitals in hydrogen and nitrogen.
