An Infection Simulation

Topic: An Infection Simulation
Time Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Grades: K to 5th grade

The students participated in an activity to simulate the spread of an infectious disease (i.e. Flu) , as well as the recovery from that disease. The students simulated the spread of the Flu, by using three dice. Each die color represented the stages of the SIR model of susceptible, infected and recovery. The students interacted with each other, not knowing who had the disease at any given time and spreaded the disease through "risky interactions". Afterwards, the students discussed the outcome of the simulation and their expectations. The students enjoyed the activity and simulating the spread of a disease.
