My experience in science and math oct. 29, 2007
I have always had a love for math. Ever since I was little I would solve math problems for fun, especially hard ones. In 6th grade I took the AMC8. It was a 25 question math test. It was pretty hard, but I found it very exciting and fun to do. I got 18 out of the 25 questions right. My parents were proud of me, but I didn't think I did so hot. I equally have a love for science. Every time I go to the library I would always get books on flowers and plants. I think its cool that all a plant needs to survive is soil, water and sun light. In 5th grade I did a science fair project on how plants grow. I got a blue ribbon. Math and science have always been my strongest subjects in school. I strive to learn more in these areas every day.
What I learned in class: Web design concepts 10/27/07
In class today Ernie taught me how to make web pages by using html. I used the program, textwrangler, to make my very own web page. I learned to use some simple tags, such as "html", "head", "body", "ul", "li", "p", and "h1". After I made the web page, I got to add it on to the server. I hope that next week I can learn how to do CSS.
What I learned in class: Creating web images 11/10/07
In class today I learned how to edit pictures with Gimpshop. I edited a picture of a girl. I changed the color of the girl and created an extra eye with the lasso tool. I also cut out a picture of a foot with the lasso tool. I used Inkscape to make different shapes. Then I put a boarder around the shape and used different gradients to fill it in.
What I learned in class: CSS 12/1/07
Today in class I learned about css, or cascading style sheets. I learned about browser defaults, external defaults, internal defaults, and inline defaults. I learned how to change backgrounds, text size, font and color. I also learned how to make an image as a background, and how to make it repeat or not repeat. I am hoping to learn more about css. There are so many things that I could create with css.
What I learned in class: CSS 12/15/07
Today in class, I learned even more about css. I learned how to make a website with a header, left bar, right bar and content area. I learned how to use CSS to make the structure of a website. I learned how to change font, color and size of text using css. We also did some javascript. I made a box that drops down when you click on it.
What I learned in class: Agent Sheets 1/12/08
I learned how to model a flu with agent sheets today. It was really cool because you get to see the agents interact with each other. I learned how to create agents and give them rules and behaviors. I created a sick and healthy agent. When the sick people get near the healthy they get sick. I also created a line graph that records the results.
What I learned in class: Agent Sheets 1/26/08
Today I learned how to make a predator and prey model in Agent Sheets. I am added rabbits and wolves to my model. I also created a grass agent that grows back when eaten. The rabbits would eat the grass and the wolves would eat the rabbits. The wolves and rabbits can also reproduce.
What I learned in class: Netlogo 2/9/08
Today, I learned how to use Netlogo. I made a model of turtles moving around. I also made a button that sets up the model. I created a button that starts the model and makes the agents move in random directions. In addition, I created a green background, and diffused it so that it looks like real grass. Netlogo is really cool because you can watch the different agents interact with one another.
What I learned in class: Netlogo 2/23/08
Today, I used Netlogo to model a virus. I learned how to add a quarantine. I created an area in the model where the sick people are trapped and can't get out. I also added a doctor to the model. The doctor can heal people. In addition, I included a slider that determines how many sick people appear when you click the setup button. I hope to learn how to add reproduction to the model.
