My experiences with Math and science

My experiences with science and math are plentiful. In 6th grade I took Algebra 1. In 7th grade I took Geometry and now I take Algebra 2. I like math a lot, I like the way the numbers just fit in. Science is also a strong subject of mine. I have taken 6th and 7th grade science. Right now I am taking Physical science. I have done labs in science before as well as participate in the science fair.

What did you learn this week that you're most excited about?
I was most excited about the HTML. I was excited that I was doing HTML because that is what my mom and dad do. I have my own page!!! I believe that the first project is a web page, so I am excited about getting closer to the goal. I cant believe that we got started on the project on the first day.

What did you do that you are most proud of?
I am most proud of the HTML website. I have started on my project. I can attach hyperlinks and put text onto my web page. I cant wait until we get started onto the CSS.

What have you heard about that you are hoping to learn more of?
I want to learn more of web design. I want to learn complex HTML and CSS. I want to learn how to put graphics and cool fonts. I want to learn how to put skins in the back.

November 10,2007

On November 10,2007 it was my second class. In the first half of class we talked about Inkscape and Gimpshop. We were talking about graphics and logos. We got the basic tutorial of these two imaging programs from Mr. Ernie. We were assigned a project of making logos. Mr.Ernie had sample pictures we experimented with. I liked Inkscape the best because it is not very complicated unlike Gimpshop. That is my opinion but you also need to use the Gimp when you need to. In the afternoon, we had our Ethics assignment from Mr. Ron. We went through the do's and donts of what to do here at Shodor. Mr. Ron came in to the classrom wearing a New York jersey with a new york cap. The impression I got from that class is that we need to dress and act professionally here at Shodor. Then unfortunately it was time to go.

December 8,2007

On December 8th, we did basic CSS. Our teacher Ishmael Torres was a good teacher. We learned the basics such as text alignment, colors backgrounds classes. Basically we need a selector, which is telling where to apply the property, which is going to be changed and the value changes it. CSS is a little tricky but worth while. In the afternoon we did math. Mrs. Bethany told us that we had to be tested in our math skills.

December 22,2007

On December 22nd, we went over our CSS. We reviewed the CSS and answered any questions we had. In the second half of class, we started Javascript. I learned that Javascript is is sort of a decision maker in programming. Javascript is used in applications. It stores the first page and then the second. When you are finished with the whole application, it is over it sends in to the server. If Javascript wasnt there it would take a long time to finish the application and you ouldn't be able to revise it.

January 26,2008

On January 26th we had the introduction to AgentSheets. I felt Agentsheets was good program. We had problems with Agentsheets, Mr. Matthew taught us this class. I remember, it started snowing that day. In the second half of class we were allowed to start on the growing grass project. I finished the grass growing parts.

February 2, 2008

On February 2nd we basically had the first half of class to just work on projects. That morning, I worked on my AgentSheets assignment. I had to start over because my the file was lost. AgentSheets tends to do that. In the second half, Mrs. Patricia taught the class advanced agentsheets. I had the grass growing and my rabbits were actually eating the grass towards the end of the day.

February 16, 2008

On February 16th we learned the basics of NetLogo. In NetLogo the actual agetns are called turtles. NetLogo is much more cleaner than agentsheets. In class we made a classroom example that had cars and the cars switched color as they passed. We finished the example before is was time to go to lunch. After lunch, we had group presentations. Group presentations, were an eyeopener. Some groups had extraoridinary pages. My groups page was pretty decent. Here is the link to my group page. Link to My Group Page

What did you learn this week that you're most excited about?
This week I learned about patterns. I wrote a discussion for the Pattens applets on the interactivate site. I learned and wrote about patterns.

What did you do that you are most proud of?
I am proud that I have finished all my assignments. I am very glad that my web page is working and all my projects are done. The best part is I finished everything before the module ended. I think I will get a full stipend this time.

What did you learn this week that you're most excited about?
On Saturday April 26, we learned bout modeling using Excel. I was interested because I didn't know we could do that on excel. I was also excited because my excel memory was refreshed.

What did you do that you are most proud of?
I was most proud of completing the model. The best part was that I have finished all my Module 2 work completed and done. I was proud that I was on task and grasped the concepts taught in the class.

What have you heard about that you are hoping to learn more of?
I want to hear more of our summer at Shodor. I want to know what we will be doing. I want to know more about Vensim and how we can use it. I also want to know what we can use these programs for, will we have future projects using these things.

What did you learn this week that you're most excited about?
I was most excited about Vensim. Finally I finished module 3 also. The best part was Vensim wasn't very hard, as I thought it would be. I was pretty mad that the program kept crashing for me. I had to switch my computers because it wouldn't load again.

Summer Week 1

What did you learn this week that you're most excited about?
I was mostly excited about the whole PHP programming and MySQL. The best part about PHP was that know I know how to make textboxes. I also like MySQL because you could use that to have a website that requires a password and username. Other group presentations were also good like Andrew and Kyle's recursive functions which spelt the word backwords. That was pretty cool also. The hangman game using Sessions was pretty interesting. I excited about the modeling programs that we dealt with in the class. The Agentsheets assignment refreshed my memory on Agentsheets. The Netlogo was okay, I feel that Netlogo is a little hard. I like Vensim the best so we chose to do our presentation in Vensim.

What did you do that you are most proud of?
I am very proud of our database. Zenik and I worked on it for two days and it was pretty good for two days. Our database was written in SQL. The website had textboxes which the user could input their information. The inputs were first name, last name, high school and age. We have a lot of entries in our database. Zenik and I decided to go a little overboard and program it so that what ever information is submited into the database, will be displayed on the website. Since the information is not confidential, we could do that. I was proud of our model. Pam and I did it in Vensim. We were the only one that did it in Vensim. It wasnt that hard. Vensim requires more thinking rather than actual programming.

What have you heard about that you are hoping to learn more of?
I want to learn more about servers and terminal. In MySQL, we connected to the database using terminal and saw if the databases were working. I want to be able to troubleshoot and see what is wrong. I see my dad doing it all the time and want to learn it also and surprise him. I would like to know the difference between Unix and Linux. I want to be exposed to operating systems. It would also be nice if we could do a little more MySQL as a class. It was really cool how we created a database. Also more Modeling wouldnt hurt. I like dealing with Vensim so it would be good if we could more Vensim projects.

Summer Week 2

What did you learn this week that you're most excited about?
I was most excited about Unix commands. You can possibly do every thing on a computer from Terminal or PuTTY. That was very cool. My favorite command was the w command to see who is on and the write command. When Mr. Joel showed us the different kinds of window managers on Linux, that was really interesting. A very cool thing that Joel showed us was the letter pixel video. The class was very interesting to me. Vim is a very important feature and a very useful one at the same time. AMC was interesting when we had the competition to see who could come up with the most math and English words. Our group did win, so that is why it was so interesting.

What did you do that you are most proud of?
I am most proud of all the accomplishment that happened this week. One such accomplish is learning Unix. Another one is getting the AMC done. Another one is paying attention in class. Another one is getting the little Unix worksheets mostly correct. Although I went to Virginia, I am not all that behind. I have to do a little more Unix like go over the vimtutor over again. I am very proud that I am an apprentice here at Shodor. When I went to Virginia, everyone I met wished that they had a job like me. I am proud of every thing I did.

What have you heard about that you are hoping to learn more of?
I want to learn more about Unix and the Unix commands. I would like to more hands on learning. I would like know more about how to customize you Terminal. I would also like to know if you can customize PuTTY. I would like to also know how we will be using this Unix. I wish we could use these command in Windows, but Microsoft had to be the oddball and not use Unix.I would like to know more about servers and more system administration. I think that is coming up in Mr. Simons class. I want to know level two Unix. It would also be good if went over the vim tutor again.

Summer Week 3

What did you learn this week that you're most excited about?
I was really excited about Java. Java has many uses and Mr. Matt did a good job of exposing them to us. The code is a bit simple, but at the same time it is a little complicated. Notheing comes easy. Java is a good language and everything but it is not for me. I still thought that it was very exciting. The second class was also very good and interesting. WEbMo is a very powerful tool and is very cool at the same time. I didnt know that you could model hemoglobin in Vensim. I was also excited about CSERD.

What did you do that you are most proud of?
I was most proud about the fact that I finished the Java model. Not only that but I had a whole hour and a half to spare. I was really proud of that. I didnt know where to start and then with the help of Sam and Jason, everything worked out. I added the new button called statistics in the applet. Then I made two new TextCanvases which spit out text. Then we needed to channel the variable that displays the position to the text canvas. It was very simple but the actual Java programming is hard. I was proud of our Hemoglobin model in Vensim. I also liked to WebMo and was proud that that I finished the WebMo tasks.

What have you heard about that you are hoping to learn more of?
I would like to learn more of system admin and Unix. Java is not the right thing for me. To me Java isn't really clear and is a little complicated to understand. The computational chemistry is a little complicated for me because I didn't get to chemistry. I didn't know what Mopac is. I want to learn a little more about Mopac. I want to learn more about Java and get to know it better. If I work at it, I will be able to know it better. I would like to know what is coming up next week. I would also like to know when I will get my module 3 stipend.

Summer Week 4

What did you learn this week that you're most excited about?
I was really excited about the system administration. I was really excited about our server. I like that we used the unix commands because I like unix commands. I think that best part was installing the CentOS. Installing the WebMO was also cool and fun. I really like how Simon told the interns to layoff for 5 minutes for us to try the thing we have to do. I also was excited about the SAT problems. I need to work a lot on SAT prep. Writing the discussions was fun because I knew what to do. This whole week was fun.

What did you do that you are most proud of?
I am very proud that I don't have to do Math and Verbal over. We did a few things assignments and I passed all of them on the first try. My discussion was really good according to Bethany. I finished my AIDS assignment. I also finished my gerrymandering project. I was really proud that our WebMO on our server is working. Our presentation was okay I guess. if Jabeau had made her poster with bigger text, it would have been better. But unfortunately she was to stubborn to cooperate. The worst part was that we didn't know about the browser problem, so therefore we didn't present our WebMO.

What have you heard about that you are hoping to learn more of?
I want to hear more about System Admin. It sounds really cool and fun. I wanted to do my project next week on system admin, but the other people got to Simon before me. If I had known that we could register for the projects on wednesday, I would have done so. Next week I will be starting on a modeling project with Kyle and Zenik. We will be converting Excel and Vensim models into Netlogo and AgentSheets. It sounds like a pretty cool project. I cant wait until next week when everything starts. This week was also a very fun week.

Summer Week 5

What did you learn this week that you're most excited about?
I am most excited about our project. Our project seems to be taking off real well. We have pages that show the books in the different locations. The best part is that we can know move the books from one place to another through the system. I like our project because it is nice and challenging. The best part is that along with everyone in our group. Our group consists of Kyle, Zenik, Hun and I. Valerie is also a very great mentor for the project. The PHP part is pretty easy, but the MySQL part is a little hard.

What did you do that you are most proud of?
I am most proud of the actual page. The library is very cool. The part that I am really proud of is the feature that lets you move the books from one location to the next. I am also proud of the fact that I have bee a very good team player. I am also pretty proud that we got the drop down menu and we are trying to troubleshoot our problems before we ask for help. That is basically what I am proud of. I am proud of my group for not getting very off task. We are doing a good job and we should keep it up.

What have you heard about that you are hoping to learn more of?
I want to learn more about where this project is going. Will it really be used with real data, or is it one of those projects that will get scratched. I am very excited because the outcome of this project looks good. I would like to hear more about MySQL, because it's actually pretty fun. I like PHP also to some extinct.
