Today was pretty much the orientation of Shodor: Their purpose, their mission statement, their rules, and the importance of communicating with my teachers and the other students. Mr. Bob Panoff also explained the importance of having expectations, observng how to do something, and then reflecting on what you learned in a jounal . Mr. Ernie went over the apprentice handbook with us too. We were learning the concepts of web design. I began creating my own webpage.
Summary...
The Three Most Important Rules of Shodor: Very Important!!!
1. Those who work, get to kepp their job. (might including other duties)
2. Raises become affective when you do
3. It's always better for you to tell them (teachers), then for them to find out. (communication is the key!)
Working Method:
Expectation, Observation, Reflection=Preview, View, Review
Reality over Expectation equals Satisfaction (fraction version)
When class first started, we went over what we learned about html in the last class. Next, we downloaded a new application called Gimpshop. In Gimpshop, wwe learned how to create our very own vector designs to apply to our personal webpage. I thought it was very interesting because I was able to complete my assignment looking the exact way I wanted to. I was also able to help others in the class.
This week was basically a continuation of learning about Gimpshop and Inkscape. There were plenty of staff and advanced appentices available to help the beginner apprentices with our homeowrk assignments. I do not have any class hours for this week, but I learned just as much on my work hours. I have to complete my personal business logo and "Aunt Elma's Pies and Pastries" business logo. All of this can be done using the Gimpshop and Inkscape applications.
Today I learned how to use CSS!!!! I'm so excitd abotu this because I can finally decorate my personal webpage. It looked so "blah" before. Also, using CSS, I can have linkbars, borders, I can change the font, background, etc. And what makes this even more interesting is that I can "control the style and layout of multiple Web pages all at once"!!!! This saves so much time!!
At this point, I am most excited about finishing my webpage. I have learned so much about CSS, Gimpshop, Inkscape, TextWrangler, Firefox and so many more applications. Whenever I get stuck with a project and nobody is availible to help me at the time, all I have to do is type in W3schools.com. W3schools is a Web-building tutorial website that will assist you in any web-based project that you need help with.
Today I learned how to use the Agent Sheets application. I will be putting this up on my personal webpage later. I finished my CSS challenge, AMC assignment, and my agent sheets homework today! I'm happy that I accomplished a lot of my assianments.
Today My group had our presentation. It went well! I learned a lot about NetLogo also. I am finally done with Module 1 homework assignments, and beginning on Module 2.
This class I learned more about NetLogo. I have a NetLogo part two assignment. Personally, NetLogo is more difficult than Agent Sheets, so hopefully by working with it, I will get ussed o the application and it will become easier for my to opoerate it. I also have to edit my page into a two or three column layout.
This week I learned how to use Excel. I have worked with excel before with schoolwork projects;but with this assignment, I actually have to calculate the sickness of a population and how quickly it passes. I performed well with the class assignment, so hopefully I'll remember eveything I learned to complete the real assignment because I won't be in the office for a while.
