MODULE 1
In the past I was not really into science but over these last couple years my interest has gone way up. This summer I attended a bunch of math and science camps to get me ready for school. This was one of the many reasons I really enjoy these subjects now. There I learned about chemistry and how it relates to the real world. We also learned about all the elements and about chemical bonding. Right now in math I am taking Algebra I, which I average an A currently.
On the first day of class I learned a lot of things about html and how it works. I first thought it was going to be really hard and confusing, but after Mr. Ernie took more time to explain it. In order to make our websites we had to use TextWrangler; which is a program that we type in all our links and things into and then is shows up on our websitess. I hope to learn more about how to get creative with my website, I think it is going to come out wonderful .The first day was truely very fun.
This week we started to learn about Inkscape and Gimpshop. They were both quite fun and complex. It was exciting to learn about two different programs that could possibly be used for the same thing.At the end of the class Mr.Ron tought us all about ethnics. What I learned from Ron could be very useful for when I work in an office.I am most proud of when I finally figured out how to make my Inkscape work. Because it would not open unless you did something special. I was also proud of when I successfully made a boring old picture look kind of cool. It looked like the person was made out of colorful metal. I was surprised that I could actually keep up due to the fact that I came in late to class.
I am most excited about my logo and my website design. I believe that they came out looking pretty good. It took me a long time to create my logo but I finally decided how it would look in the end. I was excited when I completed one of my website layouts. I had no idea I could do so many things on Ink scape. I learned that there are a whole lot of things that were on Ink scape that ended up making my designs very interesting.I am still hoping to learn more about Ink scape, even though on the Macs it sometimes does not work properly. I find Ink scape very interesting, you can just go crazy with imagination there. Gimp was also very exciting, but I find the use for it more for improving pictures. I really hope we get to learn more about Photo shop because I have heard that it has many cool features.
In Shodor I have learned many things about Inkscape and Gimpshop. But there is one more program that I was hoping to learn about and that is Photoshop. I have heard many great things about this program. It seems to be somewhat like Gimp, but in a better way. I think it would be fun to mess around with, in one of the classes. It would be interesting to learn about other ways to fix and create pictures.
This week I learned how to use css. By using this, I learned that css is very important for making your website look nice. It was quite exciting because without css my website looks very boring. But now I hope that it will look better. I also learned how to make the design separate from the content. The teacher told us that this was going to be very important. Because when someone looks at the code they might get confused if it is not organized.
Module 2
This week I learned how to use css better. Last class we learned the basics of it but now I understand it better. I was very excited to hear that there are so many things we can do to a website to make it look great. After learning all of these great things on css, I am actually starting to like writing html and css. am hoping of learning even more of css. I think that by learning css, it will help me a lot with the personal webpage assignments. And especially the css assignment.
This week we learned about a new program named AgentSheets. This program is used to show models of different things, such as diseases. I also learned that many scientific experiments are done on AgentSheets, to see what the outcome of the project would be. Like for example, today we programmed it so it would be, a flu like virus spreading among different people. This was actually very exciting, because it is sort of like a mini experiment.I am defiantly hoping to learn and discover more about AgentSheets. I think that anyone that is interested in programming should know how to do this kind of thing. AgentSheets will in fact take a while to get use to but at least I know in my gut that someday I will use this in my life.
This week in Shodor, Valerie taught us how to use a new program called Net-Logo. I was excited to learn how to use another program involving agents, although it was very difficult. This program was difficult to make each of its functions work properly. I think that I will get used to Net-Logo once I complete the homework, because Valerie says that this program takes a while to understand.I am hoping to learn more about this new program called Net-Logo. I think that this program could be useful for doctors to experiment with patients by seeing how people are getting sick and dying and how fast people can recover. I think by doing an experiment like this could help us see how the world is now-a-days.
This week I was really excited to learn more about Netlogo. Although it was rather difficult, I managed to understand some of the lesson. The second part of the Netlogo was very different than the first lesson. I think that this was because today we focused on adding more turtles and doctors. The hard part about this was knowing how to write the orders in the procedures part. For the past two classes we have been learning new things about Netlogo. Over this period of time I have discovered that I am not a big fan of this program. I guess if I keep working with it then I will get better with it. But to be completely honest I am not hoping to work more with NetLogo. What I am still hoping to learn more about is CSS or HTML.
This week in class, we had a special guest come in to talk to us. This man taught us all about how to become better presenters. I really enjoyed this class because I believe that knowing special tricks on presenting is always going to help us in the future. I thought that this was exciting because Mr. Rene taught us in such a relaxing way, which turned out to be fun. When I first heard that we were going to have a man teach us about presenting, I got excited. So I really think that I would love to learn more about the skills needed to present. Mr. Rene did a wonderful job teaching us, so it would be great if he would come back and continue to educate us. I also think that everyone in the class could somehow benefit from this lesson.
This week in Shodor, group presentations were suppose to take place. But due to the fact that almost no one came in, we had to postpone the presentation. So instead of groups presenting, all of us that were at the class had to present something about ourselves. The choices we had to choose from were to tell about something in our lives or to present one of our previous projects. I decided to present my personal web page. This class was exciting because I got to learn about what people do in their free time. In this class period I had to present my personal web page. I was really proud that I did not get nervous while I was up there. This was such a great accomplishment for me because every time I present in class I get really nervous and just go blank. I think I didn't get nervous because I was really comfortable with the subject. And since I am the one who created my website, I knew all the little details that were involved with it.
This week I learned many new things, some of which were, how to work excel and to create different functions. I was really excited to learn new things about Excel because I know I can take what I learned back to school, for when I have projects.I am most proud of when I began to understand how to add all the cool things to excel. The reason I was proud was because before this class I had no idea that all of these functions existed.
This week in class we had to create another part to the agent sheets project. Last week we made the grass grow on the model, but this week we had to take it to the next stage. The lesson was to make agents as rabbits and get them to eat the grass. I was really excited to learn all of this stuff because once I accomplish this that meant that I could probably figure out how to make the rabbit do all sorts of other things.
This week in class we learned about Vensim. I really did not think it was that exciting. But I did learn a lot about how to program the SIR model. It was very difficult to understand.I am most proud of when I finally began to understand the program, and how to do things on it. This was a really big accomplishment for me because at first this was really hard for me to understand.
This week in Shodor I learned many new and important things such as php and net logo. With php we learned how to program a lot of different things. For example we learned how to make a number guessing game. This took a lot of hard effort because it got complicated at times so it was very difficult to concentrate. I was really excited about learning php because I discovered that there are so many things you can create with this. This week we also began to deal with more net logo and agent sheets. We had already worked with this before in the school year, but in this class we expanded everything to a whole new level. I think that working with agent sheets is much easier than net logo, so I was more excited when we worked with agent sheets. But the thing I was most excited about was when I actually began to understand how to work sessions with php. When I figured how to program things with it, it was like a bulb turning on inside my brain.
This was the second week at Shodor for the summer and I was very excited to learn about all the different UNIX commands. I learned many different commands like ls, w, cd and many other ones. In the afternoon class I was excited about learning new math words that could also mean something in English. I learned that there are so many hard math words that translate into really easy English words. I was excited about learning about this in the AMC class.am most proud of when I began to understand the UNIX that Joel was teaching. I found it really hard at first because I had no idea what Joel was talking about at first. But after reviewing the VimTutoial like five times, I finally understood how to work with it. I was also really proud of when I finished the AMC assignment because it took me for ever to understand the questions they were asking about the activity.
This week I learned all about using Terminal with Simon. I was really excited about learning all of this because it could be really useful later on in the future. I was also excited about when Ada and I presented in front of the class and some staff members. That was somewhat exciting because we got to teach the others about IP tables. This week we were split into groups and were given a topic in Unix. I am proud of when me and Ada finished our project. This was a big accomplish because it took us a lot of hard work to actually finished. I am also very proud of how much I learned about terminal stuff.
I am most excited to learn about making new tutorials. This was exciting because I got to see what the staff has to do when they are trying to teach a class and get us to do a project. I think that this project is really going to help me because I ma going to understand Netlogo, Vensim, Agentsheets and even Excel better. At first when we started to do this project I thought that it was going to be impossible to complete it but when we actually started, it turned out that it wasn't that hard. I actually figured out that I knew a lot about Agentsheets. This made me really happy because on the previous Agentsheets projects I didn't do so well. I am most proud of when my group and I finished part of our final project. We put a lot of hard effort into this so I felt really good we finished. I am alos proud of when I caught up with some of my journals. I haven't done a lot of them lately so I thought that when I did one from the first week it was pretty amazing.
I am most excited about learning more about writing more tutorials. I think that this will be very important for future apprentices. And it will also help the staff members by doing a lot of work that they would usually have to do. I was also excited about finishing our group project that took almost two weeks to complete. I think that this was a really big accomplishment.I am most proud of when my group finished our project. This single project took us about two weeks. I think that we put a lot of hard work in to this, so all that time was worth it. I am also proud of our presentation that we had to do on Friday. I think that it went really good, because we felt really comfortable with the topic. Although I think that we could have done a little bit better.
