This week we have just been working on our group projects. Our project is a carpool database. It has a lot of cool features. First off, users sign into the database using their Shodor username and password. Then they can view our database, which has 'requests' from different users to get a ride. They can also submit a request, where they put in their name, the date, their request, and the coordinates of their house (which they can figure out from our page.) Their house is then added to our map, which can also be viewed, that has the locations of everyone's house. We used Google API to get the map. I'm pretty excited about our project in general, because I think that it's turning out really well, and has a lot of cool and useful features.

In the morning class this week, we had system admin with Simon. We learned more about how the servers work, and how they are organized. We had our own servers, where we set everything up and added WebMO. We learned all sorts of different commands that we used when we were setting it up. I learned a lot more about the terminal that I didn't know, and I feel a lot more comfortable using it now. At first it was hard, but throughout the week we learned more and more about it. I also understand more about how servers and networks work. At first I was kind of unclear about how they worked, but now I think that I understand a little bit better. In the afternoon class we learned more about math, and the SAT. Since I will be taking the SAT this fall, I think that a lot of the things that we learned in the afternoon class will really help me later on this year.
July.25.08
This week we learned about Java script in the morning class. Java was pretty cool, and even though I'm not quite sure that I understand it well, I'm more interesting in learning more of it. We mostly just edited other previously made java codes. Also I learned a lot more about the terminal, that I didn't know previously. In the afternoon class we worked with compounds in webMO, and later we modeled oxygenation in hemoglobin, using vensim and agentsheets. I learned a lot about chemistry in general, and about how it works. We looked at a lot of different compounds and compared them. I learned a lot about different properties that compounds have.
June.23.08
This week we started learning about PHP. I was pretty excited to learn PHP, because HTML and websites are one of the most exciting things we get to do at Shodor for me, so getting to learn a new skill to use on on websites is pretty amazing. We learned a lot of the basics, and some forms and stuff, and how to set up a PHP file so it will actually work. For our individual group project my group did MySQL databases. This was amazing for me, because I have always wondered about MySQL and databases, and was hoping we would learn at some point. My group used MySQL databases in PHP, which was pretty exciting to learn. We made a database and then discovered all sorts of neat things that you could do with it, like how to make it so that a user can enter data, reorganize the data, and other things. I'm pretty excited about learning what else could be done with PHP, MySQL, and databases.
module 3
May.17.08
Today was mostly a work day so we got to work on any projects we were behind on, or things we needed to finish. I updated my Shodor homepage, and finished my Vensim assignment. I learned today about all the various kinds of things you can do in Vensim. I didn't know that you could make it so that you could specify exact things, like how often someone takes a pill. I learned about how Vensim can help to model a wide variety of different problems, aside from just SIR models.
May.03.08
This morning we learned about Vensim. Vensim uses system modeling, where you can make groups of people to run a model. It's different from Agentsheets or Netlogo where you use agent modeling to show what each individual is doing. With Vensim, we were able to model how susceptible people would become sick.
April.19.08
This morning we learned about SIR models in Excel. We created a linear model where there was a constant rate of people getting infected, and then later we created another model where the number of people getting infected increased exponentially. We also did a real life simulation of spreading of infectious diseases. Everyone had a cup with dice, and if you and an infected person together rolled a 9 you became infected.
March.08.08
Today, we didn't do a whole lot of learning, but rather we had a work day for the whole day. One thing I did learn that was exciting was that we are getting an extension on our group project. That's pretty exciting. I also learned that we won't have a class in two weeks because it will be easter. That's exciting too. I also learned a new card game. I won a few times. :D
module 2
February.23.08
This week we learned about our new group project in NetLogo. We get to choose between two different models to make, a Water Cycle model or a Bird Flu model. Since, my group wasn't here, I choose for them. I picked Bird Flu. I'm pretty exciting about getting to make this model, especially with NetLogo because I like NetLogo a lot more than Agentsheets which, I don't like at all.
February.16.08
Today we started working with NetLogo. We got to make 'turtles' get sick and die. I am excited about getting to learn more with NetLogo. I like NetLogo more than I like AgentSheets. In NetLogo, you can make the turtles look cooler, and it's easier to use than AgentSheets is.
January.26.08
In the morning, a man from Cisco came to talk to us. He told us about presentation skills, and how to be a captivating presenter. In the afternoon, Patricia came and we worked on agent sheets. We put 'bunnies' into our previously made grass growing simulation. The bunnies would eat the grass. Later we began to add wolves to eat the bunnies.
January.12.08
This week we learned about modeling. Specifically we learned about Agent modeling. We ran agent-sheets and made healthy people get sick. Then we made another agent that would 'count up' all the other agents. We could make plots to see how many people were healthy and how many were sick. We also got to decide what our agents looked like. Mine looked funny.
module 1
December.15.07
Today we learned all about CSS. We talked about how to add javascript into your HTML to make a division appear and disappear when you click on a certain thing. We also talked about how to use more divisions to set layouts on things. I am most excited about using Java in HTML. I think that is really neat, and it is something that I have never done before.
December.01.07
This week we learned more about the Math Components and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). Math Components will be a project about math programs in Interactivate. I am very excited about being able to do more with CSS. So far all the things I know about CSS I've mostly learned from my sister, or looked up. I'm excited to be able to learn more about what can be done with CSS.
November.03.07
Today we learned about Inkscape and Gimpshop in the morning. Ernie told us more about what the two softwares were and to how to use them. In the afternoon we had a class on good professional work ethics. Ron told us more about how to conduct ourselves properly when we are in the office. I am pretty excited about learning more about how to use Inkscape and Gimpshop because I've never really used software like those before.
October.23.07
On Saturday I learned more about what we would being doing in the program. We went over the handbook and the rules. I learned about WebCalender and WebMail. We also starting working on our own websites and learned how to put them up on the server. I also learned about a website called 'W3Schools' (linked above) and it is very helpful with writing HTML and CSS.

Science and Math have always been two of my favorite subjects. In school I am taking an upper level math course; Integrated Alegbra and Geometry III. It is the standard course for juniors at my school, while I am only a freshman. I also particpated in the Kids Inquiry Conference in the 7th grade. My partner and I created and experimented with electromagnets. This year I am taking earth/environmental science.
