Isabelle Sinclair's Résumé of Awesome:

[Shodor - Skills learned]

info PHP/MySQL
I learned how to use php and mysql to create a database that could be used to store information. (see link for example of previous database created.)
info Java
I learned some java to the point where I am able to create functions to do things such as hiding divs.
info HTML/CSS
I learned enough CSS to understand how to create my webpage. I learned the basics, such as how to align divs and how to change colors and backgrounds. The rest that I learned came from w3schools or just searching google.
info Math Skills
AMC improved my math skills, so that I am better at explaining the solutions to math problems in a verbal sense.
info SysAdmin
I learned how to use terminal to create users and install packages into our own virtual machine. I also learned about the other uses of terminal such as how to move and copy files. Besides learning simple commands I also learned how to use VI to edit my personal files.
info Graphics
I learned a little bit about graphics creation through Shodor. Personally, I use photoshop instead of gimpshop or inkscape. You can just look at the background of my entire webpage for and example. That was created on paper and then scanned in and colored on my computer.

[Summer Camps]

info Red Hat High
Red Hat High was a two week program for rising 8th-9th graders that involved learning about a different computer-related subject (depending on choice): audio, video, web design, and graphics creation. I chose graphics creation. I learned how to use blender, a program created by everyone, in a sense, because it can be added to by anyone. I used blender to create 3D graphics, similar to what is seen in video games or animated movies.
info People to People
People to People was a great program that taught me leadership skills and how to help out in my community. It took place in Washington, D.C. where we were divided into groups of 10. Besides touring the major government facilities, we also managed to see a session of C-Span live. All throughout the program we met and talked about leadership skills, and even had speeches by well known motivational speakers.

[Activities]

info Octagon Club
I'm in a community service club where we participate in activites such as bake sales, canned soup drives, and fundraisers.
info National Junior Honor Society
I was a member of this club when I was in middle school. We held canned food drives and other community service projects; like the Octagon Club except for middle school. I plan to join the NHS when I can.
info Book Club
I was in Battle of the Books when I was in middle school, and also plan on joining the Bestsellers Book Club for high schoolers.
info French
I've been taking french since 6th grade at DSA. As a 10th grader I'll be taking French 4 this year.
info Piano
I've been taking piano since 5th grade. That would be around 4-5 years now.

[Other]

info Duke TIP
I was invited to the Duke TIP courses, however I was already enrolled for People to People and couldn't sign up.
info SAT
I've taken the SATs before, and am about to again.
info Yearbook
I was in the yearbook staff in 8th grade. Yearbook actually gave me a great work ethic because of the wide spread due dates. No one watchced over is in a way, and it was trusted that we would get the work done by then. We were allowed to work at out own pace, and if we screwed around then we would fail. I also had to sell $1000 worth of ads to different businesses, which gave me some businesss skills.
info Sports
I took karate (for a short period) and tennis while I was in middle school.
info Other Instruments/Foreign Languages
I took violin for a few years when I was younger. I also speak part Ukrainian along with French and English. My dad is French so I used to be fluent when I was younger. My mom is also part Ukrainian.

What I learned At Shodor

At Shodor I learned a lot of different things, such as all of the skills I have listed to the left. I could safely say that I didn't know about any of those topics before coming to Shodor, except for a limited bit of CSS and HTML. The people at Shodor are really awesome, and have helped teach me new things, to build on what I learned in class. Even with all of Shodor's awesomeness, my ultimate goal would be to get into a great law school, and become a lawyer. Shodor will not help with that goal in any direct way, but I enjoy it and I learn new things all the time.

During high school I plan on taking as many AP classes as possible, especially during my junior and senior year. Since I've never taken an AP class before, I don't know if I could handle so many at one time. For my junior and Senior year I should be taking 6/7 AP classes, and for every year after my freshman one, I'll be doubling up in sciences. After high school it would be great if I could get into a prestigious law school, where I could study for a few years. During that time I would like to be an intern at a law firm. After college I dont really know where I would go, but I'm hoping to know by then.
