I go to Carolina Friends School where they require at least four years of math and three years of Sciences. Math and Science are my two favorite subjects, but I enjoy science particularly because it allows me to use math in ways that interest me. I have taken Biology, Chemistry, Introduction to Physical Sciences, Hands on Biology, and am currently scheduled to take Biotechnology, Comparitive Anatomy and Ecology classes later in the year. Before I graduate, I plan to take AP Bio, Advanced Chemistry, and Physics. I have taken all of the Mathematics classes appropriate for my grade level, and am looking forward to using Science and Mathematics in my future careers, and learning experiences.
When I entered the classroom that I will be using every other Saturday for the next year, I did not expect that I would learn as much as I did about how computers work. Before we got to computers though, Ilearned alot more about the Shodor program. Robert M. Panoff, the President and Executive Director of Shodor explained more of the organization's policies and "Shodorisms". After that I got to learn about Html, or Hypertext Markup Language from Ernie, and how websites contain two parts. The two parts of a Website are Content and Design, where Content is made up of Html and links, and Design is made up of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). I got to create my own website and I have now updated it in order for you to read this!
Today, I learned about creating websites with the html formatting. I'm very excited about updating my website each week because this is nothing like anything else I have done before. I learned that html stands for Hyper Text Markup Language and that it is the basic form used to create websites. I also learned more about the Shodor program, and how to avoid having my contract terminated.
This Week Ernie explained to me how to use Inkscape and Gimpshop. I learned that Inkscape uses vector graphics to create images from scratch, and that Gimpshop uses pixels and Bitmap to enhance and manipulate folders. I also learned how to behave appropriately in an office environment and use business and social skills to ensure success in a company setting.
I learned how to use CSS in four ways. Browser Defaults, External Stylesheets, Internal Stylesheets, and Inline Stylesheets. I can't wait to edit my webpage with the knowledge I have of CSS. I also learned about the Apprentice Mathematic Component and how to turn in my Homework assignments on Moodle.
I learned how to create a layout and edit HTML with CSS. I used both Inline CSS and External CSS to create table and websites in class. I am excited to continue learning these techniques.
I learned about using the program agentsheets to create models. I can create models based on information like statistics that I put into the program. The model can predict what will happen, and graph it if you ask it to.
I learned how to properly present projects in front of small to large crowds. I have a presentation due on friday that I'm excited about doing. I feel like I learned how to get people involved during my presentations and how to not bore the audience.
I learned about using Netlogo to create models and graph data. I find the syntax for netlogo much easier than Agentsheets. Im looking forward to starting my Netlogo project and experimenting with the things that I can now do on this program.
Today I felt like a received a greater understanding of Netlogo. We learned how to put breeds of turtles into our models, and also learned how to tell those breeds what to do. I'm looking forward to applying this information to my group project.
This week I worked on my Netlogo group project. I learned from some of the Interns, different ways of solving problems, and ultimately improving the project. I am excited to finish this project because it has taken a lot of time, and I feel that I have put a good effort into it.
