Shodor – I've attended many workshops at Shodor prior to joining the Apprenticeship Program. These include the SUCCEED Biomedical Sciences Workshop and the Shodor Scholars Program. I've learned many skills at Shodor, inlcuding Graphics, HTML, CSS, Java, Python, BASH, VI, Terminal, Vensim, NetLogo, AgentSheets, Math, and Science. I've been enrolled in the Apprenticeship program at Shodor for a year now.
Babysitting (American Red-Cross Certified, more than 4 years of experience) - This has taught a lot about responsibility, patience, and critical thinking. I love little (and big!) kids, and babysitting is a great way to connect with them. I've also learned a lot from the awesome kids and families I sit for.
Volunteering
North Carolina Botanical Gardens (this coming year) – The Botanical Garden is most definitely one of my favorite places on Earth. I've been going there since I was a wee little kid, and I'm excited to volunteer there this year. I'm going to be learning a lot about plants and caring for them, as well as how to clear trails and weed gardens and such. I know I will gain some very valuable knowledge through this experience.
