My experience in Shodor year 1
I enjoyed my first year as an apprentice at shodor. Though some classes, like sys-admin were very hard, for the most part I enjoye these classes. I particularly like the programming parts, where I often eed help with syntax, but it is satisfying to finish it in the end. I feel that programming is an important thing to know, as well as how to work on something with other people.
I am not yet sure what I want to do for my career. I am thinking maby a career in science, because I like to figure things out. I might also get a career in programming. Other than that I am not sure what I want.
My experience with math and science.
For most of my life I usually have liked science and was fairly good at math. Though math is not always my favorite subject, I am fairly good at it and enjoy trying to figure things out as long as i know what I am doing. I usually like science because it helps explain some about how the world works. One of my particular areas of interest is computer programming, as I have liked comuputers for as long as I can remember. I am also interested in areas of science such as physics and biology.

Today is my first day in the apprenticeship program. I learned some of the basics about the program and what was expected of me. This includes going to classes and doing extra time to work on projects. I also learned and reviewed some basic html code, such as how to make paragraphs and links. I used the basic html to make this website.

This week I learned more about Gimpshop. I had a lot of fun with the sharpen image tool, and I made a background with it. Unfortunately, my computer locked up later on and I think the background might have caused it. Next week I hope to learn more about how to improve my website. I have some ideas on what to do with it, such as having multiple pages, including one with my computer art work. Ross helped me today when my computer crashed. I am now writing this on the computer he let me use. My computer is still frozen up and has 'the beach ball of death'.

This week I learned more HTML. I used this to further improve my website with text colors and font. I changed the font of my website and learned how to use CSS inside of HTML. CSS lets you do things like color and font changes. I still have not learned how to make a mobile link bar. Ishmal says it will be taught in the advanced CSS class.

This week further improved my CSS program. I learned how to make a side bar, and more about style sheets. I learned how to make margins, divs, side bars, and headers. I would like to learn how to make my links bar mobile. I might be able to find this out on my next work day.

Today I got back from the winter break. This week I learned more about AgentSheets, a modeling software. I leaned how to do some things in it, like give the elements of it, or 'agents' commands. I have some very good ideas involving an agentsheets project involving two competing types of grass. I would like to learn more about AgentSheets, like how to give individual 'agents' atributes and timers.

I learned more about CSS today. I am using it to further improve my web page. I finally got some work done on my group project and should have the group page done soon. I would like to learn more about how to improve my Agent Sheets program. So far I have my grass working well and will add the wolves and rabbits during my next work period. Ada helped me some with my group CSS assignment. David Keats (one of my group members)helped me some also.

Today we started learning about Netlogo. It is a somewhat unfamiliar system, as it is much looser than C#, having less punctuation. I am glad that I am finally starting to get the Apprenticeship Math Component out of the way. I did not do much today but work on Netlogo and the AMC. An intern who's name I do not know helped me with a bug involving the interface between old macs, java, and firefox.

This week I learned more about Netlogo, another agent modeling program. I think I did very well with the editing of the sample Netlogo program. I find Netlogo very interesting, though the syntax is weird. It is fairly easy to program apart from that, though. The teacher helped me with the syntax in Netlogo.

I forgot to updae during this period, so here is an overall review. In this period I learned things like Vensim, Java appletts, and software development. I also worken on a project with a group on Snap2, a program that Shodor keeps many of its website's files on. Uploading the lesson plan went fairly well, and in the spring 2009 we will be presenting it. Our group's project is on workplace ethics, and includes things such as dressing apropriately and appropriate posture.
