Happy Holidays!
Welcome to my Shodor website!
My name is Alex Lew, and I am an apprentice-turned-intern at The Shodor Foundation. I started in October, 2006, with many other teenage apprentices from the Durham area. This year I have been hired as an intern and am working with Jeff Kraus on computer modeling projects. Did I mention how much I love the NSF and its willingness to fund the program I am in?
To the right is the cover art for the first issue of Dragonfire, Duke School's literary magazine. I attended Duke School until 2006, and while I was there, cofounded Dragonfire. We put out two issues with over thirty pieces of writing each.
I am now at Riverside high school, taking a variety of classes in Science, Math, English, History, and a couple foreign languages. I enjoy working with computers, learning new languages, and have also done quite a bit of biology.
I applied for a position at Shodor during the summer and fall of 2006, and started attending workshops in October. So far, I have learned a lot of things ranging from solving SAT-level math problems to creating websites like this one. I've learned about CSS, web standards, and other modern web techniques, and have also learned a lot about Unix. My mentor, Matt DesVoigne, has been a great help with all of the assignments we get after every workshop, and also with teaching me things that were not explicitly covered in the workshops.
Please look around the website, and when you get bored of this one, try checking out my group's website,
mantained by my group partners Philip and Caleb, and myself.
Happy Holidays!
Alex Lew
