Akash Mullick

Hello, my name is Akash Mullick. I am currently a rising tenth grader at Carrboro High School. I first attended Shodor for the programming concepts workshop last summer. I loved it so much that I participated in the Shodor Scholars program later that summer. That was where I first met Dr. Panoff, president and executive director of Shodor, and learned about the Apprenticeship program. Over the summer, I also took an online course on JavaScript. Along with computational science, I love reading and playing musical instruments. Once I start reading a book, I won't stop until I finish it or am dragged away. Whenever we have a reading requirement for language arts, I complete it before the first semester is over. I have been playing the piano since I was 8. I'm part of my school band where I have been playing the clarinet for three years. Our band participates in the Chapel Hill holiday parade, so I work hard to learn and memorize new pieces during the holidays. I enjoy all of my classes at school, but my favorite class is latin. Learning a new language is fun, and my latin teacher is great.

I love animals, especially dogs. I have a two year old Golden Retriever who loves playing with me. He always greets me when I come home from school, and asks me to play with him. I also love to travel, and so far I have travelled with my family to England, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Canada, India, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, and Jamaica. I have also visited several National Parks in the United States.

Feel free to check out my blog and portfolio to learn more about what I do as an apprentice at Shodor.
