Background

Our model chronicles the the spreading of the black death, also commonly known as the bubonic plague. The bubonic plague was a pandemic that affected China in the early fourteenth century, and due to the fact that China was a big trading port the disease hopped on the ships en route to Europe. In Europe the disease spread at an alarming speed and it was unknown how the disease was transmitted. It was later discovered to be transmissible by rats and specifically the bacteria Yersina Pestis.

Goal

Our goal is to model the spread of the bubonic plague using Vensim, Excel and AgentCubes. In addition, we will reflect on the effectiveness of each approach in modeling our topic. The main factors in our model are the human and rat populations.
