Adya Mahajan

With a great academic interest in mathematics and computer science, Adya Mahajan joined Shodor eager to learn about computational science and various programming concepts. She first joined the organization by going to a couple of workshops and was then invited back to be an Apprentice for Shodor. This webpage contains information of the projects she has completed at Shodor as well as a blog documenting what she has learned as an Apprentice. Various projects she has completed include a project modeling the relationship between Customers and Sales as well as a project on combating Forest Fires with aerial firefighters. Through this program, Adya has become proficient in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and creating models with AgentCubes and Vensim. She hopes to learn more about computational science and create more projects to present data.

Currently a junior at Raleigh Charter High School, Adya hopes to apply the skills she has learned and the knowledge she has gained into daily life. Outside of Shodor, Adya enjoys doing classical academic art. Her main medium is oil and the techniques she uses are modeled after the great masters--Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo. Her work has been showcased at Reynold’s Gallery at Duke University and Rey’s Restaurant. Her work has also won awards at various competitions. Adya also enjoys teaching art to students at her studio as well as doing classical Indian dance. She is also engaged in photography and writing. As Adya also has a great passion for debating, she is active in her Mock Trial team and Model UN club at her school. She has participated in a number of competitions and conferences representing Raleigh Charter. She is the president of Model UN, co-chair for Student Legislative Assembly, co-leader for Phoenix Services, and Lead Teen for Cary Teen Council. Adya loves taking on the responsibility of a leader and giving back to her community. She recently organized a food drive to help out the local Food Bank and is now affiliated with SOOTS (Sustaining Roots Music) which is dedicated in preserving the culture of the South by engaging others, raising money, and assisting Music Makers.
