## Problem 2 Solution

a. Write 365.25 and 1440. in scientific notation.
b. Write both numbers in EE, or calculator notation.

```(a)  3.6525 x 102   and   1.440 x 103
(b)  3.6525 EE 2    and   1.440 EE 3
```

### Solution Steps for Problem 2

The key: remember how to write numbers in scientific notation and EE notation.

Note 1: In scientific notation, you need to show all significant digits. That is why for the number of minutes per day, the number is written with the last zero showing.

Note 2: The answers above should be a strong reminder to you that the EE notation and the EE symbol on your calculator stands for "times 10 to the power of" and not just "to the power of". So, 106 is not entered as 10 EE 6, since that would be 10 times 10 to the power 6, which would be the same as 107; instead, it would be 1 EE 6.
