The Effect of Medications on Daphnia

introduction

ASL

Studies now show that the medicines we take are showing up in our rivers and lakes. How are these drugs affecting the plants and animals that live in our waterways? This lesson explores research conducted at the University of Wisconsin- Madison on daphnia. Daphnia are used by environmental researchers as an early warning device for fresh water systems.

ASL

Repeating the actual research would take two months and a room full of equipment. By using a computer model you will be able to replicate the experiment in a few minutes. This model will predict the effects of 2 specific medicines on daphnia.
