We started off the class reviewing what we did yesterday. We talked about the process we learned about "expectation, observation and reflection." Ron talked more about his personal life and the importance of studying. He then gave a little introduction into electrical engineering. After that, Kaleb gave a presentation on circuits. He talked about a water wheel and how it was related to a circuit. He talked about how pipes in a water wheel were similar to wires and how the water is the energy. He also defined important terms such as current and power. He also showed the class different equations such as I=VR to calculate current. The class then went to www.falstad.circuits/circuits.js.html. Here they saw a model circuit. By following Kaleb's instructions, they were able to model circuits themselves. Kaleb then went back to his presentation to teach them the symbols that each part of a circuit has. He also went over the units for terms such as resistance. The students then received a bag full of necessary equipment to build a circuit of their own. They learned about breadboards and the history behind them. The students then made a circuit that flashes a light. After the students came back from break, Kaleb told them more about capacitors. After this, he introduced them to the 555 timer chip. The chip was used to help the students progress in the circuits they were building to make the light turn on and off. Kaleb explained the schematic to help them build circuits on their own in the future. They worked on the project for about thirty minutes. Soon after, they went back to the circuit modeling website and made circuit models until the end of class.
