This web design workshop teaches young teens the basics of creating and
designing your own website. Computers are provided for our participants to use
and they come with easy-to-use programs to make the workshop as fun and
comfortable as possible.
In this workshop, students will learn how to write code in HTML and CSS. As
how our web design teacher at Shodor, Joel Coldren, puts it, HTML is like the
skeleton of the website. It has all the words and links that you desire to display
when you open your webpage. CSS is like the makeup on the skeleton. CSS shows
color and positioning of certain objects on the website. The students use an
application called TextWrangler to perform all these amazing tasks.
Our young programmers will learn many useful things in the world of web
design. They will learn how to add links, tags, paragraphs, borders, colors, pictures,
and anything else to build the perfect webpage. All these topics are important in
creating a beautiful and neat website for public viewing. Not only do we teach what
creates a great webpage, we teach what happens behind the scenes as things
happen that we canât see in code.
Students can make a website a rainbow of colors or have many interactive
elements. There is one-on-one teaching and a classroom environment, which
supplies a fantastic atmosphere for fun and learning. These websites are accessible
from home and students are encouraged to be as creative as they want to, to depict
what they see as their webpage.
