During the afternoon portion of the workshop, Kristen taught the students how to implement Gimp. They went over its essential functions, such as color editing, cropping, and layers. The students also learned how to change the background and use layers to make a realistic illusion of perspective and proportions. Furthermore, the students used other tools, such as airbrush, selection, and different filters. To apply these techniques, the students used different pictures. To use layers and show the manipulation of perspective, students used a blimp picture. They layered blimps of different sizes on top of each other, to show the distance they were from you. With a picture of the Taj Mahal, students replaced the sunny background with a dark night sky filled with fireworks. They also edited the building itself, so that it appeared as though it was during night. This utilized the selection tool, color selection tools, and layers. To implement the skew and stretch tool, students edited an image of a butterfly.

After the break, students worked on a banner for the website employing the techniques they had learned earlier. These included but were not limited to gradients, color hue, color saturation, selection, crop, filters, layers, and contrast.
