In today's Web Design Workshop, Nicole showed the class how to use a new photo-editing program called GIMP. After downloading several test images, the class used GIMP to modify each image with Nicole's guidance. Once everyone learned a few of the basic features of GIMP, the students started to work on a project: changing the contrast of a picture of the Taj Mahal in daylight to make it look as if the photograph was taken at night. To pull of this effect, the students removed the background of the Taj Mahal, replacing it with a picture of a night sky filled with fireworks. With the background in place behind the Taj Mahal, building off of yesterday's knowledge of layers, the students fine tuned the layers of the picture until they looked convincing.

In their next project the students modified a picture of a forest. They used filters to add clouds and mist in order to give the forest a mysterious or spooky appearance. Nicole helped the class make the picture look as if it had aged by adding "coffee stains," and by properly adding a sepia filter. Once this project was finished, everyone had the chance to revitalize their Inkscape logos from the previous day by using GIMP.
