Today's Web Design Workshop started with a short introduction to Inkscape by Cameron. He taught the class the basics of the design program including tools like the path tool, the zoom tool, the calligraphy feature, as well as how to create shapes. He went on to introduce the concept of layers, multiple overlapping design planes that can be shaped, colored, and edited to create different effects with additional tools such as filters. Then, Cameron had the students edit two pop-culture logos: the Nike "Swoosh" and the Target "Bullseye." For the Nike project each student cut out the "swoosh," added their own colors, backgrounds, gradients, and filters to make a customized Nike logo. Unlike the Nike project, the students had to begin their Target project by creating a red and white bullseye from scratch. They accomplished this by creating alternating red and white concentric circles. Afterwards, they added the text "Target" underneath. Both projects helped emphasize the usefulness of design tools for Web programming as well as giving everyone the chance to practice using Inkscape.

After a break, the students began exploring the rest of the program on their own, using Inkscape to create their own customized logos. Everyone tried out different ideas, comparing designs and drawing inspiration from the world around them. Some designs evolved from the letters of an student's name, using fonts to create pictures, while others grew from a picture or an interesting pattern. Many of the students finished their designes with enough time to make a second or third logo for their websites. Once everyone had a chance to finish working, Cameron asked everyone to place their logo on a banner and place it on their website.
