Today in the Designing your World workshop, the students were able to get a lot of hands on practice. They began class by making a story for the model they wanted to create. Each workshop student came up with many different ideas for what they wanted to model, and often developed more ideas just by looking around the room to see what everyone else came up with. After drafting their stories for their models, the students opened their modeling programs to begin bringing stories to life. Everyone started with a blank slate, their story, and the help of the teachers and interns at their disposal. After a few minutes, the class had created individual characters and stories, however it proved to be a tougher challenge to make the story work than the students had anticipated. Reminding the group that the right answer is nothing more than the wrong answer with corrections, Alexandra, Rachel and Rob guided everyone through their initial problems and provided creative feedback for new changes in the stories.

After having a quick break, the students started their work again. Despite running into a few problems on occasion, the students were all able to create working models with additional help from Alexandra, Rachel, and Rob. Soon, however, the workshop students were able to start helping both themselves and each other! Through trial and error, everyone created full-fledged models with some having evolved to include complex scenarios and intricate interactions between characters.
