Today in engineering, the students reviewed what they learned in the previous days and put that information to use during a challenge. James had the students work in groups to build structures that would hold a cup full of marbles. Each group of two or three students received 50 straws and 100 pipe cleaners to build their structure. Students were awarded points based on how tall their structure was and how many marbles the structure could hold. They had to use their materials efficiently and effectively, keeping in mind the different strengths of different shapes as well as how the materials bend and compress under load.
