In the beginning Cameron welcomed everybody to the workshop, and introduced everyone to each other. He introduced the program and the general use of the program using a PowerPoint. He made sure to describe how the program can be used in the industry, and of course as a hobby. To emphasize the importance of knowing the difference of bitmap and vector graphics he enlarged an image using pixels(.png) and an image using math(.svg) and let the students see the difference. Next he opened up the application and described the usage of the tool palette at the left hand side. To make sure everyone had a full understanding of the palette he tested every tool on there to show their effectiveness in handling different procedures. The first activity consisted of enhancing the visual characteristics of a simple graphic. The activity was basically taking the background off of a graphic, and replacing the background with their own. Also they enhanced the hue, saturation and other elements that make the graphic what it is. Cameron and Heather made sure to give time to the workshop students to check on them along the way. They paced the workshop in such a way that the students did not really feel lost along the way. The next activity was the classic acne-removing trick. Cameron showed the students how to take acne off of a person's face in Inkscape and Gimp. People had fun with this one while being able to follow along. The next and final activity was an easy concept, but somewhat hard to actually implement. It was to add fireworks to the Taj Mahal. The catch was that the Taj Mahal image already had a background; therefore people would have to get rid of the background and map the fireworks image to it. People surprisingly did not have a hard time with this, they flew through the activity and the final product looked great.
