The second day of forensics began with a different icebreaker; this time, students were spilt into teams and had to come up with as many words as possible using the letters from forensics.

Kate then led the class in blood typing. They broke into groups and tested the blood samples previously gathered from Ernie, Eric, and Joel. After testing the blood, they realized that the results showed the blood was Ernie’s, so they visited Ernie’s office to see if anything was out of the ordinary. In his office, they found a cryptic note and a broken glass. This was suspicious, so the students decided to interview both Eric and Ernie.

During the interviews, Eric and Ernie told different stories about how the glass got on the ground. Eric said that Ernie threw it out of anger but Ernie said he knocked it off his desk. Jenny led a lesson on projectile motion to figure out who was telling the truth. The students modeled the fall and solved for the initial velocity to discover what actually happened. Given the data they found, they knew Ernie was telling the truth and the glass had accidentally dropped off the desk.
