Today, the Web Design class learned about HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) and CSS(Cascading Style Sheet). Interns Navid and Julian taught the class. The class first created a simple HTML page. Julian showed the class how to make an ordered list, using HTML. He used the example of favorite sports, where each item has a certain rank. The class then learned how to create an unordered list using the example of "music that I like", where the items are listed in no particular order. The class then learned how to put images in the HTML, and afterwards, the students learned how to add links to their website. The last thing the class learned about HTML was how to make a picture act as both a picture and a link.

After the break the class began learning about CSS. They learned the basics, like how to change colors and fonts, and how to make a link change when it is hovered over. Navid gave the class a challenge to make the most interesting webpage using CSS by the end of the week for a prize of peanut M&Ms. He taught them about divs and what they do. Navid then showed the class the Shodor Style Shop and challenged the class to recreate it. The last thing they learned for the day was classes and IDs, what they do, and the difference between them.
