In the afternoon, the students kicked off class by evaluating websites on 3 major characteristics: color, structure and readability. By the end, the students were able to understand what works on a site and what doesn't. As the instructor mentioned when the class reviewed these concepts, these basic ideas will help as they work toward their final project (a personal web page).

After the quick review, the students began learning Inkscape, a drawing tool that is invaluable in rendering mock-ups and other web driven design. The instructor gave a brief overview and demonstration of all its tools and features. Before the break, the students were given time to experiment with all the tools in Inkscape. After the break, the students began creating sample mock-ups in Inkscape, led by the close instruction of the teacher. These skills will ultimately help them with their final projects and web design in general.
