Today the class did experiments with race cars. They went upstair where the Garrett had already set up three ramps. The students split up into three groups and ran several experiments with Hot Wheels cars and the ramps. The students also measured Rise over Run on the ramps as well as the height of the different starting points on the ramp. The cars would ride down the ramp and fly into a crate full of sand. The students also measured how high the car flew before landing in the sand. Then they ran the test again to see if the car landed in the same spot twice. The class was very excited at the prospect of racing Hot Wheels cars. After the data was collected, the class went downstairs and learned how to do the computational part of the experiment. Using Graph It, a program written by Garrett, the students were able to insert their data and see the parabola the car made in the air before landing. The graphs in the program basically mapped the cars path on the map.
