Workshop Schedule:

This workshop will meet online, 9:00am - 12:30pm EST, from July 19 - July 23, 2021.

Workshop Description:

Most of us use websites every day without stopping to wonder how they were made! Maybe you've always wanted to make a website but didn't know how or where to start. Or maybe you've experimented with HTML code but want to learn more. The Web Design workshop will take you through the process of building a website. Students will learn to write HTML and CSS code to create and build a fully functioning website. By the end of the workshop, participants will know the techniques and tools used to create and build websites and will be ready to make websites on their own.

Structure of Activities:

Participants will learn by doing; they will be given demonstrations on the use of HTML/CSS and how to lay out a simple website. Then they will work to complete the activities on their own computer with help from the remote instructors. Every workshop session and all communication will be held through Zoom.

Educational Objectives:

This workshop introduces students to HTML and CSS for the purpose of creating a simple website. The primary goals for students will be to learn how to code HTML to display content and how to code CSS to enhance how HTML appears on the Web.

Facilities and Equipment:

All activities will take place online. Participants will need access to a laptop or desktop computer with Internet access. Also, participants will need to download the following free programs and make sure they can run on their computer prior to the start of the workshop:

Prerequisites:

Participants should be rising 6th–8th graders interested in art, science, technology, and/or mathematics. No prior experience is needed. Participants should be comfortable using the computer that they will be using during the workshop.
