*Middle School Apprenticeship Program in Garden-Related Sciences

*Program cancelled

This program works with a selected group of 12 young people of middle school age, primarily in a garden setting. The program takes place after school hours during the spring and fall, and in the mornings during the summer. Our objectives are: (1) to increase participants' knowledge of and enthusiasm for the scientific exploration of garden eco-systems, (2) to improve participants' performance in science classes in their schools, (3) to promote participants' self-esteem by involving them in growing, harvesting, preparing and eating fresh produce, (4) to encourage participants to feel connected to the natural world around them through outdoor garden science activities, and (5) to model to participants an appreciation of the kinds of food which can be grown in our region and which can provide superb nutritional value for good health.
