The MINDS Student Scientist Program is designed to increase participation of minorities in science careers. Three groups of 20 students in grades 6 - 8 from eastern North Carolina will be selected to participate. The program consists of a summer camp, academic year Saturday sessions which teach research skills, a research project guided by a professional scientist, a science forum for participants to discuss their research projects and report results, and an opportunity to return the following year to serve as role models themselves by working as museum floor educators and science demonstrators.

Students must complete an application process. Each student chosen for the program will recieve a TI-83 graphing calculator for their participation in this program. In addition, each participant will recieve a one year science magazine subscription of their choice, a one year Imagination Station family membership, and a $300 stipend for each year they participate in the MINDS program. Also, each year of the program will end with a family camp-in for the participants and their parents at the Imagination Station.
